Sweet Spring

The first warm day of spring flirted with my senses when I stepped out the door. The smell of sunshine bouncing off the wet grass, fog lifting, and blossoms dancing in the breeze surrounding me.

Summer was on its way and the bleak days of winter were finally over. As though a dark sheet had been lifted off of the plants and trees the lawn and fields shone with a new energy.

This bright day would bring big smiles, windows down, and coats traded for t-shirts. It was the beginning of lunch break walks, summer plans, sleeveless shirts, and sandals.

Lunches would be outside, coffee breaks would be longer, smoke breaks sweeter.

Smoke breaks sweeter.

Warm weather made smoking that much sweeter.

Standing outside with the sun shining down, hot on my skin. Coffee clasp casually in one hand, cigarette held loosely in the other. Laughing.

While I burned away working hours inhaling smoke.

Exhaling smoke.

While I burned away my life inhaling smoke.

Exhaling smoke.

I used to tell myself that… “at least I’m outside enjoying the weather”… and then it would pour rain and I’d think “why the hell am I still doing this”
    I’m so glad I quit 🙂

SO glad I never started smoking, it would be like someone telling me not to eat chocolate now.
NOT a hope in HELL! LOL

I hope my children never start.
      BUT
If someone told you chocolate would kill you?
      you might quit?

What a contradiction in here. The smoking was sweeter when the weather was warm which sounds like you enjoyed it but yet you knew it was damaging to you.

      OH I did enjoy it!
      BIG TIME!
But smoking kills and I knew that.
      Had to quit.
Still miss it when the breeze is warm

    Your writing is such poetry!

That first line? “Flirting with your senses..” Perfection!

You were a smoker?! Who’da thunk. Good for you for quitting. And great description of why it must be so hard.
