Kicking off Summer Blog Social!

I do not have a ticket to BlogHer’11

BUT no worries!

Because my friends Liz from a Belle a Bean and a Chicago Dog and Jessica from Four Plus and Angel are hosting a Summer Blog Social!!

From the comfort of our own homes we can all participate in learning about social media and branding.

Can you say #ALLCAPSAWESOME??

So for this week that is what I will be participating in, all things social media. All things branding, All things #SUMMERBLOGSOCIAL

(for my friends and family who are wondering why I am putting a numbers sign in front of words and forgetting a space, this is called a hash tag and is commonly used in twitterโ€ฆ once you learn how to use your email I will help you tweet.)

Alright.. Lets get this Social started!

——————————————————————–

I read a lot of blogs, a lot. I am always adding new finds to my reader and email subscriptions.

I begin every morning by checking my email and twitter and if I see a new post, BOOM, I read it.

If I see a new link on twitter, BOOM, I favourite it for later.

And at work I take my lunch to go through my reader and absorb as much awesome content as I can. Awesome content I have usually been direct to via Twitter or comment sections.

BUT!

Many bloggers leave off the very pieces of information and share buttons that will increase their traffic ensuring their readers return.

What pieces you ask?

Share Buttons: Twitter, Facebook, Email, Stumbled Upon, LinkedIn. Get a share button and enable it. Tutorials are easy to find, I recommend EliRose Social Media.

This allows your readers to share the awesomeness they just read. Who doesnโ€™t want that?

Receive your posts: Make it easy for readers to get your posts in every way possible! Email Subscription, RSS, Google Friend Connect, and Twitter. Again I recommend the tutorials for the above through EliRose Social Media.

Social Media: Get involved!! Add Twitter and Facebook Buttons, Ensure your Twitter bio is complete and finish your About Me page on your blog.

And last but not least.

Have a way for your readers to contact you.

Some of your fans may want to talk to you but might not be comfortable writing it in the comments section, especially if you write about sensitive subjects. Having an email address dedicated to your blog will allow your readers the ability to get in contact with you easily.

What do you look for when you go to a blog?

Did I miss anything?

All great tips and I especially agree with making it easy to share a post with buttons (I’m all about easy!). I’m sure I share more posts that have them than ones that don’t. Glad to have found your blog through the social.

Great tips! I actually just was looking in your sidebar for the first time on this new site and I never saw how cute your new social media buttons are – love them! I think share buttons are huge. I actually have a few more I want to add. It will be share button overload at my blog. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don’t have FB right now and am in the middle of making a decision about it. It may show up, it may not.

Excellent tips, friend! It wasn’t really until another blogger mentioned it months ago, but now I get SO irritated if there’s not a tweet button somewhere on the post for me to share it.

      ACK! so true!!
I love to be able to just tweet stuff out and not have to shorten it on my phone through bit.ly

    Hello!
Great post! Do you have any idea how I can add GFC to a WordPress site? I looked at EliRose, but didn’t see an answer… I’m new to the blogging world – there is so much to learn!
    Thanks!

I think I probably need to add more buttons and link options. I’ve been waiting though until I make the big move to WP.

Love your comment about using email. Smart ass ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good tips. One of the biggest things for me is a good about page. I like to get a sense of who someone is.

I agree with all your points. The first thing I usually look for if I find a great blog? Ways to connect with the blogger (Twitter, GFC, Facebook – in that order). And I always read an About Me page. I’m very into knowing who just wrote that fantabulous post I just read.

And sadly, not everyone has an About Me page.

    • multitaskingmumma
      August 1, 2011 | 8:41 pm

And not everyone has Twitter!! That’s the first thing I look for if I love a blog!!
If there’s no twitter then I move on
      Bummer!

This is what I wrote about too and you and I are of the same mind on the “allow people lots of subscribe options and make them easy to find.” It’s discouraging to sign up when they’re hard to find and that’s too bad. Glad to have found you at #summerblogsocial. I’m a new follower (from your easy to find subscription area). ๐Ÿ™‚

I always look for a twitter link!
I get a little disappointed when there isn’t one because it’s such a huge piece of social media for bloggers

Great tips on sharing! I was blogging for months before it occurred to me to add share buttons to my site. Oops.

I also find a lot of great posts from Twitter, in fact my reader is now the secondary way I get new posts to read.

    • multitaskingmumma
      August 5, 2011 | 5:34 pm

Mine used to be twitter but since I started loving my reader I use twitter as the secondary now.

I have found that I have been missing out on some blog posts by relying on Twitter too much. If I am not on when someone tweets out a new post then I may never know they have one. So I think it is time to go back to my Reader and its awesome Next button ๐Ÿ™‚

Good tips for sharing content. The easier the better for your readers.

One suggestion for you…in the settings for your Twitter post share button, add your Twitter handle so that it automatically includes your @handle when someone presses the button. If you need help with this email or tweet me.

Hahaha…I’m laughing at the “number sign…and when you figure out how to use e-mail”…that cracked me up, and it’s SO TRUE! I was texting my sis the other day, and I used a hashtag, and she was all, “what’s that?”.
    Great tips!

People really don’t get it unless they’re on twitter.
It’s like we’re in our own world.
