Elf on The Shelf … a Bawler

Elf on The Shelf has come to visit us this year.

It is our first experience with him in our home and we are trying to be gracious hosts.

My daughter, the one who pulls every single book off of the book shelf, even after being told no and don’t touch, acts as though there is a magical force field around the Elf preventing her from getting too close.

Just like the book says… she can not touch him.

And at 20 months old, she doesn’t.

When he first arrived he was pretty tame, he just relaxed when he came back from the North Pole each night and didn’t do anything too crazy.

But Elf was alone all night long and bored so he began to explore a little.

He tried to assist with decorating and household chores but got the two confused.

He was the new guy in town and still getting to know everyone in the house. He wasn’t sure where the towels were, if he was allowed to go in the fridge without asking, and still a bit shy.

But he has become comfortable with everyone quickly and discovered that he likes it here,

He likes it a lot!

Dylan McKay, however, is not impressed.

I don’t like the idea of threatening children with an elf who reports to Santa for one month of good behaviour.
But I do like being creative with a character who appears once a year to bring the magic of Christmas.
It’s all in how it’s delivered.

You could always go buy a cheaper version without the book and the marketing and claim that one as your elf.
