Be That Change!

I was spoken to on Friday.

And I’m not going to say by who so don’t ask me.

Don’t do it.

This person communicated with me in a fair but stern manner regarding the way that I had stood my ground on an issue I felt passionately about.

They discussed my personality and my exuberant nature, my ability to influence others, and my drive to evoke change.

They cautioned that during the moment I was standing my ground some might not have agreed with me; with my behaviour.

It was suggested that perhaps in the future, should I take issue with a topic being discussed, I could hold a conversation one on one with the person who brought it up.

Away from the group.

It was mentioned that I should attempt to go with the flow on some subjects and not “rock the boat” so much.

Not bring so much attention to the subject matter or myself.

And then it was my turn to rebut.

I explained that I did not agree with the subject matter that was presented to me.

That the way to evoke change was not through “going with the flow” and ignore problems or issues, it was to discuss it in a group, with the people that were going to be affected.

Involving others, bringing attention to the problem, and letting each other know where it can be improved is how to create change.

We are all capable of it but so many people fear it.

They are afraid of the process, the meaning, and what it brings.

I don’t.

I will always be the voice for people who can’t or won’t speak up.

I will always take that risk.

And I will ALWAYS rock the boat.

As always I am proud of you! I wish I had more of that assertiveness and rock the boat personality. You know where I come from and this makes me proud! If anything in the past week I’ve learnt that you can’t change your values or who you are or what you stand up for- not for anyone especially a job! I love your spirit about things that matter! Don’t ever let someone stop you!!! Xoxo Nic

Good for you! Many times, I don’t speak up because everyone seems to be on one side and I’m on the other. Thanks for the reminder that my voice matters.

Honestly? I’m surprised that anyone that knows you would have the nerve to approach you about being ‘you’.
    They obviously don’t ‘know’ you.

This is one of 122,448 reasons why I love you girl.
    You’re bullshit-free… just like me.

I was surprised that this person said something too but I guess they thought it was out of character for me.
Obviously they don’t know me very well.

I am shocked that someone would have even said that to you.
Poop on them and in their yards so they step on said poop while trying to retrieve the newspaper.
Stand firm woman. Don’t let other people censor you.

Yahoo Leighann! I am proud of you. Back in the day, when I had a backbone, I could have stood my ground but that is a struggle now. After reading this I feel myslf sitting up a little bit taller and there is a wee bit more confidence . . . thanks.
P.S. Some of the sitting up taller may have to do with the fact that I am sitting on a rather large ball rather than my chair but I am going to chalk it up to how awesome you are.

made me think of this … and btw, you ‘rock on’

“It only takes one smile to offer welcome…and blessed be the person who will share it.
It only takes one moment to be helpful…and blessed be the person who will spare it.
It only takes one joy to lift a spirit…and blessed be the person who will give it.

There are many people who become very uncomfortable when someone stands up for themselves and/or their convictions. That makes me fight even harder. It also makes me so concerned about the state of our world.
