Between the endless baskets of laundry, groceries, cooking and cleaning, us moms have a long to-do list. Some days it isn’t easy to remember anything beyond household responsibilities! With the holidays fast approaching, I know my household will get even busier. I try to include doing good deeds during the season but with all the craziness it’s often pushed aside. Fortunately, there’s a new and effortless way to give to the community.
There’s this company, ChangeIt, with an innovative way to use small change to make a big difference. Similar to the idea of crowdfunding, ChangeIt allows users across Canada to support their favourite causes each time they make a purchase by simply rounding up the purchase and sending the difference to the charities you choose. How often do you use your credit card to buy things for your household? With ChangeIt, you could donate to charity every time you made a purchase.
Here’s how it works: after signing up online, ChangeIt users can decide how much they want to donate by setting monthly maximum and minimums and what charities they want to support, up to 5, out of any charity in Canada. When I purchased a $2.60 coffee with my credit card, 40 cents will automatically be rounded up by ChangeIt for the donation. At the end of the month, ChangeIt then distributes the donations to my charities of choice. And at the end of the year, I’d receive a receipt for 100% of my donations, allowing me to take advantage of the tax savings. Then if I was feeling extra generous and wanted to give a little more one month, I could also make one-time donations online or on my smart phone anytime.
ChangeIt has been available through credit unions in communities across Canada but recently became available with BMO, the first major bank partnership. Now BMO MasterCard customers can make a donation every time they use their card in a transaction.
With ChangeIt, our small change can make a big difference to somebody who needs it. It’s effortless and automatic, and puts you in control of your donations and where they go.
Giving back has never been this easy. So what are you waiting for? Spare some change and do a little good in the world. For more information, visit https://changeit.com.
